Best Breed Dogs in India
The dog lovers world over know that dog is the best pet to be adopted. Dogs are the most loyal, affectionate and intelligent animals to be taken as a personal companion. They love their owners unconditionally. No wonder they are called ’man’s best friend’. Most of the dogs popular with people in India are imported. Some of the most popular dog breeds in India, which can be kept as a pet or guard/watch dogs are:
1. Golden Retriever
The Golden Retriever is one of the most popular dog breeds in the U.S. The breed’s friendly, tolerant attitude makes him a fabulous family pet, and his intelligence makes him a highly capable working dog. Golden Retrievers excel at retrieving game for hunters, tracking, sniffing out drugs, and as therapy and assistance dogs. They’re also natural athletes, and do well in dog sports such as agility and competitive obedience.

Breed Characteristics:
Some dogs are simply easier than others: they take to training better and are fairly easygoing. They're also resilient enough to bounce back from your mistakes or inconsistencies. Dogs who are highly sensitive, independent thinking, or assertive may be harder for a first-time owner to manage. You'll get your best match if you take your dog-owning experience into account as you choose your new pooch.
Some dogs will let a stern reprimand roll off their backs, while others take even a dirty look to heart. Low-sensitivity dogs, also called "easygoing," "tolerant," "resilient," and even "thick-skinned," can better handle a noisy, chaotic household, a louder or more assertive owner, and an inconsistent or variable routine. Do you have young kids, throw lots of dinner parties, play in a garage band, or lead a hectic life? Go with a low-sensitivity dog.
Some breeds bond very closely with their family and are more prone to worry or even panic when left alone by their owner. An anxious dog can be very destructive, barking, whining, chewing, and otherwise causing mayhem. These breeds do best when a family member is home during the day or if you can take the dog to work.
Tolerates Cold Weather
Breeds with very short coats and little or no undercoat or body fat, such as Greyhounds, are vulnerable to the cold. Dogs with a low cold tolerance need to live inside in cool climates and should have a jacket or sweater for chilly walks.
Tolerates Hot Weather
Dogs with thick, double coats are more vulnerable to overheating. So are breeds with short noses, like Bulldogs or Pugs, since they can't pant as well to cool themselves off. If you want a heat-sensitive breed, the dog will need to stay indoors with you on warm or humid days, and you'll need to be extra cautious about exercising your dog in the heat
Potential For Playfulness
Some dogs are perpetual puppies -- always begging for a game -- while others are more serious and sedate. Although a playful pup sounds endearing, consider how many games of fetch or tag you want to play each day, and whether you have kids or other dogs who can stand in as playmates for the dog.

2. Pugs
The Pug originated in China and came to Europe about 400 years ago.
What does the Pug look like?
The Pug has a compact, small body with a short muzzle that can cause breathing problems, especially if the humidity is high. It has a wrinkled forehead and pendent ears that are very soft. Special attention should be paid to its prominent eyes as they are prone to problems. The Pug has a shiny, soft, short coat. Colors are silver, apricot-fawn and black with a dark mask.
What is the Pug's temperament?
The Pug is a loving, affectionate, happy dog. It is good with children and other pets. The Pug loves to eat, so watch its diet no matter how difficult it is to resist that adoring look. Be sure it doesn't get over-heated in hot weather.
What is the Pug's use?
The Pug is a marvellous companion dog.
From being a relatively rare breed in India, Pugs have gone on to become a hot favourite of Indian Dog Lovers, thanks to the immensely successful Vodafone campaign that brought the breed to limelight.
With their adorable wrinkly faces and bulgy eyes, friendliness and loyalty coupled with a small frame that can weigh anywhere between 6-8 Kgs (13-17 Lbs) and measuring up to 15 inches tall, Pugs make ideal pets for people who live in apartments or families with children. They also do well with little exercise and are incredibly low maintenance.
The vertical wrinkle on their forehead is said to resemble the Chinese character for “prince” and thus known as the “prince mark”
Pugs are extremely easy to keep but have a serious tendency to become obese unless their diet and exercise are watched carefully. With the short muzzle, they do not thrive in hot, humid weather and must be observed carefully for heatstroke. Pugs do tend to snore, again a result of the short muzzle. The prominent eyes are easily injured and care must be taken to keep them moist. Pugs are fairly robust otherwise and often live up-to 15 years of age.
